Super Mario RPG – how to get the Lucky Hammer

The Lucky Hammer isn’t available until you’ve gathered more than half of the seven stars. By the time you can purchase it, the weapon is outclassed by more exciting gear that does more direct damage. However, there’s more to a weapon than its ATK stat, which is why you might buy the weapon. To get the Lucky Hammer, purchase it from the merchant in Seaside Town.

The residents of Seaside Town, which is built along the water near the map’s lower left area, are not themselves when you first encounter them. Although the town has numerous shops, most of the shopkeepers are too alarmed to offer the typical wares. To fix the situation, you must clear the nearby Sea and Sunken Ship areas.

Once you defeat Johnny in the Sunken Ship and restore peace to the sea, return to Seaside Town. You will find the town has changed. Another battle awaits you, with Speardovich. This fight is arguably the most challenging one you’ve faced up to this point.

At least, it was for me with my characters at level 11. Your foe uses a lot of area attacks that burn through your armor. If you need to, spend some time battling monsters to level 14 or so at the Sunken Ship. Make sure to bring items that can heal multiple party members at once, as well.

After you defeat Speardovich, release villagers from the shed and then meet them in the shops. The vendors offer new wares, including the Lucky Hammer. When you equip the weapon, timed hits let you more easily produce lucky post-battle events. It’s a weak weapon, and even your timed hits do less damage than usual. But if you need to grind, it can be a valuable resource.
