Similar to what happened with Presage and the Dead Man’s Tale scout rifle, to get the Whisper of the Worm, you will have to complete the base difficulty of The Whisper exotic mission in Destiny 2 – which drops on April 9, 2024, after the weekly reset along with Into the Light. This will not only get you the weapon itself but also unlock its blueprint, making it fully craftable. Moreover, each completion of the Whisper of the Worm – in any difficulty – will award you with an intrinsic upgrade which will help you out creating a unique and powerful version of the Whisper of the Worm while crafting it.

Now, before you begin checking out any guides or strategies regarding this mission, there are some major changes that Bungie has put this Exotic Mission through:

  • You will trigger the mission by talking to Eris Morn. No longer will you have to go to the Lost Oasis and wait for the Taken Blight public event to start. No more RNG dependence, hooray!
  • Combatant density has increased to fit today’s Destiny 2 sandbox.
  • Treasure chests and secrets locations have changed.
  • The boss fight strategy has been overhauled.

In general, it appears that The Whisper exotic mission we will get to experience in Into the Light is very different from The Whisper exotic mission introduced during Warmind. The only thing that isn’t clear is if The Whisper will be timed this time around. If so, then you will have 40 minutes to complete it, with its original Heroic difficulty limiting it to 20 minutes. You can expect a minimum level requirement of 1800.

How to get Whisper of the Worm Catalyst in Destiny 2

And since we are talking about Heroic difficulties and all, getting the Whisper of the Worm Catalyst will be a much more difficult challenge. The most probable thing is that – again, similar to Presage and other Exotic missions – you will need to complete The Whisper Exotic mission in Legend difficulty. If so, unlocking the Catalyst will reward your Whisper of the Worm perk called Whispered Breathing, which – after amassing 500 kills – will reward a range and precision damage bonus while aiming.
