How to read shards in Cyberpunk 2077

Where on Earth are you keeping them, V?

In Cyberpunk 2077, there is a shocking amount of reading material. Condensed into little shards that are distributed around all of Night City, these book stand-ins will tell you all you need to know about the history, culture, controversies, and society of Night City. Not only are they used for contextual purposes, as they can also be used for missions. However, when you pick them up for later reading, how do you actually read them? Here’s how to read your shards in Cyberpunk 2077.

Finding your shards in Cyberpunk 2077

Nothing is more annoying than not hitting the ‘read’ button in time after picking up a shard in Cyberpunk 2077. This most commonly happens when a whole bunch of stuff pops up on your screen, and you can’t react in time. This happened to me the most during the Cyberpsycho missions and was honestly the worst part of the experience for me. Which is strange, because I love the narrative aspect of video games.

If you want to access all of the shards you’ve found so far in Cyberpunk 2077, look no further than the main menu. On a keyboard, that key is ‘H’, on a console, that button will be the touchpad (PS) or the view button (Xbox). This will bring up a menu where every other menu can be accessed.

Go to your journal, and a dropdown of two other menus should be present, Tarot and Shards.

Clicking on the Shard option will provide you with a list of all the shards you have collected so far. They are mercifully organized into many categories, so you can easily access the shard you need. You may need to get into this menu often to read a shard that a mission requires you to read, or for you own desires. Just make sure to close the categories once you’re done with them, else it’ll be a nightmare navigating your list of dozens and dozens of shards.

One neat feature of the list is that, since Cyberpunk 2.0, blue titles mean you have yet to open that shard, and the title greys once you’ve opened it. If you’re keen to know everything there is to know about the world, you don’t need to worry about missed shards.

I hope you enjoyed our tutorial on accessing your shards, and can finally progress on that mission you’re probably stuck on. For more Cyberpunk help, PC Invasion has you covered.
