How to salvage items and gear in Diablo 4

What am I supposed to do with all this loot?

Much like any RPG out there, you’ll get a lot of loot as you play and do quests. Some may be worthwhile to hold on to, while others can be given away or broken down. Diablo 4 is much like that; when you go into the world and deal with the many dungeons, you’ll pick up loot quickly. You have two options: Sell or salvage it to get more resources. This guide will you show how to salvage items and gear in Diablo 4.

When you complete quests or dungeons, your backpack will fill up rather quickly. To the point where you won’t be able to carry anything. This will force you to either drop some pieces of gear or teleport to town and sell everything. Selling is a good solution; you can get gold out of it, but salvaging goes further than that. On hardcore, it’s a great way of getting resources to create better gear.

There are many ways to salvage gear and items in Diablo 4. But, unlike other RPGs it’s not as straightforward. I had a little confusion at the start but understood it after figuring it out.

First, head to any town or village and look for a Blacksmith; they are usually near the center of the village or town.

Before interacting with the Blacksmith, press I to open up your inventory. Go over each piece of gear you want to salvage by pressing the Space Bar every time. Doing so labels them as junk.

After you’ve done that, talk to the Blacksmith. Make sure you’re in the Salvage Menu before doing anything. Once you’re in this menu, click the All Junk option. Then your gear will be salvaged, and you’ll see what you get from it.

However, if you choose not to label your gear, you can still salvage it. When you’re in the Salvage Menu, click the sickle button to manually salvage things. You can do this by dragging the sickle into your inventory and click on the items you want to offload.

Additionally, underneath the All Junk option, there are choices to salvage gear depending on their rarity. So you can click whichever, and it’ll salvage those pieces of gear. For example, if you press Common, all the Common gear will be salvaged.

Should I sell or salvage?

According to a Reddit post, sell Grey and Blue but salvage Yellow and Orange items or gear. Yellow is a higher tier in rarity than the other two. It gives out more resources, plus rare ones as well. As mentioned, this becomes even more critical on hardcore, because you want to get strong as quickly as possible. This is done by salvaging gear that’s Yellow and higher.
