Modern Warfare 3 Minelayer guide: How to easily eliminate zombies and Mercenaries with Energy Mine Field Upgrade

Zap your foes like a pro

Tier 3 missions in MWZ are a big step up from previous quests, forcing you to stay on the map longer and take more risks. Minelayer is tough, and if you approach it the wrong way, it can take a very long time. If you’re struggling, here’s our Modern Warfare 3 Minelayer guide: How to easily eliminate zombies and Mercenaries with Energy Mine Field Upgrade.

Before you begin, ensure you have the Energy Mine Field Upgrade equipped. You’ll have it active by default, but make sure you’ve not swapped it for the Frenzied Guard upgrade.

Zombies are much easier to deal with than Mercenaries with guns, so I recommend those first. Before you can use the Energy Mine, you need to charge it. All Field Upgrades charge up with kills, and you need 25 for the Energy Mine.

This Field Upgrade destroys everything in a small radius, so you ideally want a tight group of Zombies to throw it into. The best place I’ve found for this task is by an Exfil. When you call a Helicopter in, Zombies swarm the location, and it’s easy to net a ton of kills.

If you don’t want to confuse your teammates by calling in an Exfil, you can always find a ton of Zombies around Aether Nests. Don’t go inside unless you absolutely have to, as cramped buildings are the worst place to be if you’re being chased.

The Mercenary kills are a pain as a group can deplete your health in seconds. If you spot a roaming convoy, you can shoot at it so the soldiers leave their vehicles. Once your targets are outside, throw your Energy Mine for a few easy kills.

Mercenaries are dangerous, so I recommend finding a better Plate Carrier before you attempt the mission. Alternatively, you can play it safely and throw Energy Mines at stragglers.

Do I lose mission progress if I die in MWZ?

I’m unsure if you lose progress for higher-tier missions, but your Minelayer progression is saved even if you die. If you play solo, it’s easy for one mistake to cost you the match. You’ll lose your gear, but at least you won’t lose your progress.
