PC Invasion Podcast #71

We’re drinking a drink to Lily the Skink in this week’s PC Invasion Podcast, as Total War: Warhammer 2 gets its anticipated announcement. Lizardmen, Elves, evil rats, and all the rest of what’s likely to be turning up in this sort-of-sequel gets talked about here.

The other big game with a ‘2’ in it this week, at least from a PC point of view, is Destiny 2. Luckily, Tim’s played some of the first game. Otherwise this would be a pretty short segment. Should you be excited? Is Dinklage coming back (probably not)? And all that business.

From twos to screws, as Valve put the squeeze on their Dota 2 artist community. Revenues have tumbled and Valve don’t seem to care. Almost as if they have a history of exploiting community goodwill or something. Weird.

Then, there’s some chat about the all new Secret World and the upcoming Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition.

We’ve both played Dark Souls 3’s Ringed City DLC and have thoughts on that. Tim’s also played Thimbleweed Park, so that’s another game that words will be said about on this PC Invasion audio presentation.

Stream or download Episode 71 of the Podcast, below. Older podcast episodes live in the archives. Go back in time at your own risk – the audio quality gets pretty rough if you stray too far.

Hey at least the economist that Valve hired was a socialist (Yanis Varoufakis, of course). I don’t know his economics work too well, but exploiting labor for private profit is…not very Marxist.

Destiny is such a strange game. It’s a mildly enjoyable shooter, but all its MMO aspects are kinda half-baked, and yeah most of the DLC was heavily focused on raids. It winds up being a pretty unrewarding game for solo players. Maybe the sequel will address some of that.

Marxist economics is an oxymoron. Anyone who believes in Marxism is a moron.

A spectre is haunting Europe … the spectre of bad posting.

Marxists are haunted by the ghost of the common sense they don’t possess.

I think Varoufakis also subscribes to Game Theory, so his economic outlook must be quite a curious mix.

Admittedly, I have not closely followed his work. His tenure (is he still there? I thought he went to join the Greek government in 2015) seemed to loosely coincide with Valve going hard towards gamification/commodification of everything – but how much he’s involved with that I don’t really know.
