I often stumble across chests past gaps and in holes up cliffs with no way of getting over there. Typically, your Pawns should help you, but they won’t always. In this case, you’ve got to take matters into your own hands.
Throwing your Pawns can be more useful than their abilities in Dragon’s Dogma 2
There are many Pawn abilities that should help you bridge gaps to access loot in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The Fighter can shield-push you to greater heights, and a Mage may be able to levitate you over a gap that can’t be jumped over. However, they won’t always perform.
Even if a Mage Pawn with levitation points out a chest across a gap – and mentions that they can help me cross it – they won’t seem to. Even after I press the “Go!” command once they’ve mentioned it. This is rather frustrating, until I finally thought to do something.
Sure, I can’t jump over the gap, but I can throw the Pawn over the gap. They landed on the other side, and my “Go!” command made them collect everything they could over there – including looting the chest. As pawns teleport back to you after some distance (especially with the “To me” command active), then you don’t need to worry about them coming back.
Not every gap and detached location can be reached this way – but it helps to access other ones so you won’t be missing out as much.
The best thing about this is that you no longer need the relevant Pawns with the appropriate skills with you all the time just in case. For the most part, throwing them over will do the job just fine, no matter the Pawn.
Once your Pawn has pilfered the goods you desire, you can simply hop into their inventory and claim it for yourself – or wait to get to a storage point and deposit the goods directly from their inventory. Make sure to be careful when using someone else’s Pawn to garner the loot. If you disband them before you deposit or take the items, they’ll go with them to their owner.
I typically rely on my Main Pawn, Dull Craize, to grab the items for me. As a small Beastren, he’s more manageable to throw thanks to his smaller hitbox. Although note that the size of the Pawn doesn’t influence how far you can throw them, every creature has the same throwing range.
