Season letter to future Steam Next Fest Estelle field

Season: A letter to the future to have a demo at Steam Next Fest

Appreciate what you have before it's gone.

Those looking forward to next week’s Steam Next Fest event will have a potentially interesting new adventure game to try out. Announced at The Game Awards 2020, developer Scavengers Studio’s Season: A letter to the future has already impressed a number of people with its melancholic atmosphere and strong visual style. Unfortunately, the game did not exactly have the smoothest of development cycles at least in part due to the workplace allegations levied primarily against the title’s former creative director. But with these issues seemingly addressed and the developers remaining hard at work for well over a year, Scavengers Studio finally has a playable demo of Season: A letter to the future ready for Steam Next Fest.

A recent press release describes the story in mostly vague terms. But essentially, the game stars Estelle, who departs from her relaxing home in the mountains for the first time once the seasons start to change. She navigates her mysterious new surroundings to gather memories before the world goes through some sort of major change.

What do you do in Season?

Much of the gameplay involves exploring this colorful world using Estelle’s trusty bike before occasionally stopping to capture memories using various recording tools. These memories can come in the form of “sounds and music, art and architecture, voices of old people, vanishing religious practices,” and other neat findings. Additionally, players will inevitably encounter various characters that will shape Estelle’s story in certain ways. Observing and interacting with these elements of the world will allow players to get a better sense of “the culture, history, and ecology underneath everything.”

As a reminder, Steam Next Fest will take place from October 3 to October 10, so curious players should ideally test out the Season: A letter to the future demo within that time. Hopefully, the excitement people had toward the title ever since The Game Awards will pay off with a positive and memorable experience.
