Starfield – should you kill Delgado?

You first encounter Delgado, leader of the Crimson Fleet, right at the end of the previous mission for that faction. When you figure out how to complete Rook Meets King, you are introduced to Delgado and another rookie, Mathis. This meeting immediately initiates your next mission, Echoes of the Past. As you work your way through Echoes of the Past, Mathis proposes that you kill Delgado, and you must decide whether you want to go along with him.

The mission begins with the three of you exploring the icy planet of Suvarov. You and Mathis soon become separated from Delgado. He remains in radio contact, and you will meet him again soon. However, Mathis gets to thinking. What if you were to kill Delgado, the leader of the Crimson Fleet? An assassination could put you in good standing with Naeva Mora. She is currently the second in command, and she would assume a leadership role in the future Mathis envisions.

At this point in the game, you are an undercover agent attempting to infiltrate the organization on behalf of UC Vanguard. For that reason, and because I didn’t trust Mathis, I chose not to agree with his scheme. He makes the proposal twice over the course of the mission. He argues pretty hard for it. In both cases, I told him I wasn’t going to go along with the scheme.

You can choose whatever response you like. When the time comes to kill Delgado, Mathis reconsiders his plan. Your choice affects your relationship with Mathis more than it impacts Delgado. After you meet up with Delgado again, he wants to know how the operation went and how Mathis performed under pressure. You can either lie and talk trash about Mathis, or you can say he did a good job. I chose to say he was useless. Delgado kicked him out of the Crimson Fleet, and Mathis swore to have his revenge. Not long after that, he found me in space and tried to kill me in a space battle. It’s a shame he didn’t appreciate my betrayal. I had enjoyed our little rivalry.
