Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris – Increasing weapon proficiency

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris features nine different weapon types that can be used. As mentioned in our Sword Skills guide, Kirito must equip these weapons at least once to unlock their skill trees. Once that’s done, you can start unlocking more skills until you eventually hit a brick wall — weapon proficiency — which can take a while to increase once you reach a certain point. Here’s our guide to help you out.

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris – How to increase your weapon proficiency

Increasing your weapon proficiency in Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is actually very simple: just keep using specific weapons against enemies. That’s it, the guide’s done. Have a nice day, everyone.

I’m kidding. That’s because your progress will slow down considerably once you reach 300+ proficiency with any weapon. That’ll make getting rank 3 secret skills (ie. Bow – Fix Peer) a lot tougher since these require 500 proficiency in a given weapon. Fighting Divine Beasts will also be a pain since you need higher proficiency to improve accuracy.

Note: The maximum proficiency for any weapon is 1,000 points.

Picking your companions

If you’re no longer getting a lot of proficiency from a certain weapon as Kirito, go bring a recruitable companion that uses that weapon type. Here’s a quick list:

Weapon Characters
1H Sword Eugeo, Alice, Ronie, Tiese, Leafa
2H Sword Sortiliena
Daggers Silica, Linel, Fizel
Rapiers Asuna, Fanatio, Sheyta
Katanas Medina, Bercouli
Maces Lisbeth
Whips Eldrie
Bows Sinon, Deusolbert

Note 1: Renly uses boomerangs, something Kirito can’t equip. Selka and Cardinal, meanwhile, don’t use weapons at all.

Note 2: No one else can dual-wield swords except Kirito, so you’ve gotta boost that on your own.

Cheesing and boosting weapon proficiency

Anyway, once you’re in combat, switch to that character and use them to keep attacking. Because companions have lower weapon proficiency when you get them, their stat will increase faster. Likewise, this will even help boost Kirito’s own proficiency.

Note: There are times when the weapon proficiency of companions will drop whenever you switch them out of your party. I’m not sure if this is a bug or working as intended.

You can also have companions attack Clamp Clusters which you’ll see once you reach Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris‘ third chapter. Simply go to any zone that has a Clamp Cluster (ie. Sustnel Mountains seen below) and make sure the mini-Clamps are still alive. The Clamp Cluster won’t die if the other Clamps haven’t been eliminated yet. You’ll see just how fast you’ll increase your weapon proficiency in a short while.

Note: If your companions aren’t earning points as fast as before, go increase the game’s difficulty via Kirito’s Tent. The mechanic itself might have something to do with how tough the enemies are.
