Total War: Warhammer II guide – Imrik’s Dragon Encounters and Dragon Taming

Dragon Taming basics

There are five unique dragons for Prince Imrik to find in Total War: Warhammer II‘s campaign. In fact, you could field all of them during custom/multiplayer battles if you’ve selected the Knights of Caledor faction:

In Prince Imrik’s campaign, you’ll encounter your first dragon after 10 turns have elapsed (and every 15 turns thereafter). Just head to the marker and a dilemma will give you the following choices:

  • Consult the Dragon – Gain that dragon’s unique buff for 10 turns; costs 2,000 gold. You’ll encounter the dragon again later in your campaign.
  • Bargain with the Dragon – +70 influence; costs 2,000 gold. You’ll encounter the dragon again later in your campaign.
  • Challenge the Dragon – Battle the dragon. Winning the battle lets you obtain the above rewards as well as the dragon’s service as a unit, which means you won’t encounter it later in your campaign.
  • Leave it be – Do nothing. You’ll encounter the dragon again later in your campaign.

You may skip your first dragon battle if you’re not yet ready, so just pick the first option to gain a temporary buff. On your next encounter though, after 15 turns, try to defeat that army to gain the dragon as a unit as well as unique item rewards.

Note: With regards to the buffs, these are unique to the dragons you encounter. You could even reload the previous turn’s save if you want to meet a different one. The buff obtained when you “Consult the Dragon” lasts only 10 turns. If you “Challenge the Dragon” and beat them, however, the buff lasts for 20 turns instead.

Dragon Encounters and buffs

Assuming you finally decided to duke it out with these majestic beasts, then you’re in for quite a fight. Each dragon brings a full army of deadly units and reinforcements, but the rewards are well worth it. Because of the enemy units versus what your force has early on, I would suggest taming Bruwor or Shackolot first as the others can be a pain in the Asur butt.

Note 1: Unlike Total War: Warhammer II‘s quest battles which will have a battle that’s in progress after the cutscene finishes, Prince Imrik’s Dragon Encounters let you deploy your army properly before starting the engagement.

Note 2: These unique dragons, once defeated, will appear in your Regiments of Renown panel. They are free to recruit though they still have upkeep. The best part, however, is that you can safely dismiss and recruit them — even as part of another army — all within the same turn. This allows you to move your dragons around freely all over Total War: Warhammer II‘s campaign map if you wish.
