Whalien Unexpected Guests Month Floating Barrels Ernest

Whalien – Unexpected Guests has you solve puzzles in the bowels of a mechanical whale later this month

Those cogs won't clean themselves.

If you want to kick off the new year with a short, but unique experience, then Whalien – Unexpected Guests may certainly provide that. Developed by Forbidden Folds, this quirky 3D puzzle adventure game sees players exploring the inside of a mechanical whale of all places. The Steam page estimates that the game will take you around two hours to beat, so don’t expect a sprawling epic. Having said that, the game’s vibrant, colorful environments will seemingly ensure that you always have something fun to look at within that timeframe. You can expect to pick up Whalien – Unexpected Guests starting late this month on January 24.

The game stars Ernest Hemingwhale, a man who resides in a mechanical whale named Fin. As the whale’s only living inhabitant, Ernest has the responsibility of making sure that Fin runs without a hitch. Unfortunately, his job becomes more complicated when hordes of mischievous Squiddy creatures invade Fin’s body. Using his trusty Gloves, Ernest comes to Fin’s aid and works to drive the Squiddies out.

Push and pull your way to victory

Ernest’s Gloves allow him to manipulate objects without needing to touch them, although this alone won’t be enough to take the Squiddies down. Ernest also needs the help of Mr. Push and Mrs. Pull, two sentient pearls that can, as the names suggest, push objects away and pull them together respectively. Pushing and pulling serve as the central mechanics of Whalien – Unexpected guests, so players will have to make the most out of them to solve puzzles. Along the way, players can uncover secrets and meet the strange Springpeople who also entered Fin somehow.

The upcoming release of Whalien – Unexpected Guests on Steam this month should excite those eager to play a charming, lighthearted 3D adventure. You can take a look at the game’s announcement trailer below or check out its Steam page ahead of launch.
