Where to buy ammo in Starfield

Don't leave home without it.

Starfield drops you in the middle of an expansive galaxy far in the future and lets you wander among the stars. You’re not alone, either. There’s a healthy assortment of hazardous beasts, not to mention pirates, smugglers, and assassins. Most of these threats respond best to bullets, but you need to scavenge or buy ammo to keep your supply in good shape.

Where to buy ammo

The weapons you find in Starfield require bullets and cartridges of several types. It’s no fun to carry around a powerful weapon, only to find you can’t shoot it at the very moment you need it most. Therefore, you should regularly buy ammo at shops in New Atlantis, Akila City, and Neon Core.

I always try to grab ammo cartridges and clips I can find on the bodies of enemies I eliminate. This is a great way to build up a decent supply since ammo weighs nothing. It’s also available in crates throughout abandoned stations or outposts, plus you can purchase some from vendors at Civilian Outposts. But the scavenging you might do and the random vendors you find may not be enough if you rely on weapons or have unfortunate aim. The merchants in major cities are your best source of ammo, and you should visit them often.

In New Atlantis, buy ammo from UC Distribution. You can fast-travel to the Commercial District, then head directly forward and watch for a building on the right. The shop carries a lot of supplies and is my pick for probably the most useful single store in the game. Centaurian Arsenal, though less conveniently located near some of the smaller shops and residential towers, has a wider selection of ammo and also sells good weapons. Jemison Mercantile also offers ammo. Additionally, you can take the elevator around the back of that building to find The Well in New Atlantis. There, you can buy ammo from UC Surplus or the Trade Authority.

In Akila City, buy ammo from Shepherd’s General Store. As you head away from the Spaceport and start down the main road through town, watch for that shop on your left. A short distance further along the same street, you’ll find Rowland Arms, with a broader selection. The local branch of the Trade Authority, on a side street not far from The Rock, also carries ammo.

In Neon Core, buy ammo from the Trade Authority. You should see it almost directly ahead if you fast-travel to that area. Another good option is Neon Tactical, which is right next door. It has a broader selection of ammo, too. You can also try Newell’s Goods, though the selection is slim. It’s slimmer still at Arboron, located on the ground floor of Ryujin Tower. That is still a worthy stop if you’re looking for non-lethal weapons. Finally, if you venture into the city’s Ebbside district, you’ll also find Frankie’s Grab + Go, which carries a similarly small selection of ammo.

Ships you board are one last place to check for ammo. Sometimes, even when I’m not stealing enemy ships, I like to board them to raid their supply stash. It’s great fun.

Starfield is available to purchase on Steam and the Microsoft Store.
