Genshin Impact Hydro Characters [8] Neuvillette

Why Genshin Impact players think Neuvillette is the best player since Dehya

A success in gameplay design.

Genshin Impact has a massive and impressive roster of over 70 playable characters, with this list growing higher and higher every day. When Neuvillette’s banner dropped around a week ago, there was a good amount of intrigue in his kit, as HoYoverse seemed to be experimenting with some more uniqueness in a cast of characters that needed to freshen up a bit. Many characters nowadays are absolute stinkers, with weaker 4-stars and 5-stars such as Dehya suggesting that HoYoverse was perhaps running out of ideas. Fortunately, Genshin Impact has livened up the cast with Neuvillette, a strong, powerful, and most importantly fun character that the community is universally praising.

It’s not just his kit that has people swooning, however. Spoilers up ahead, but Neuvillette is a fascinating character. With the revelation that Neuvillette is the Dragon Soverign of Water, he feels like one of the only mythical creatures aside from random cat-people that pop up now and then. This is supported by his overall design, with blue, tendril like horns sprouting from his back, and his wings that appear while using his empowered Charged Attack. It’s wicked cool, and of course, the community is in love with his design as well.

The looks and vibes aren’t the only thing that’s important about a character, however. More importantly is how they play, and Neuvillette is a stellar character who feels fast and fun, and brings out the best of Genshin Impact’s robust combat system. Recently, HoYoverse’s 5-star characters haven’t been the greatest, with Dehya flopping due to her weak kit. Even Baizhu, while strong, can feel a bit clunky and uninteractive. But Genshin Impact has fired on all cylinders with Neuvillette’s kit, and has brought a lot of fun back to the game’s combat.

Neuvillette’s smooth gameplay rotations revolve around his Elemental Skill, Elemental Burst, and Charged Attack. After using his Elemental Skill and Burst, Neuvillette will generate large Hydro orbs that he can absorb to power up his Charged Attack, which drains his HP. While using his Charged Attack, Neuvillette can collect these orbs to immediately trigger a devastating attack, a geyser of water that rains down pain on his enemies. It’s a fluid playstyle that’s not only fun, but also incredibly powerful. Additionally, when Neuvillette absorbs these orbs, he will heal back some of his HP, allowing him to become self-sufficient even with HP drain built into his kit.

Players have called Neuvillette’s kit “a triumph,” with others claiming he’s even dethroned Zhongli as “the most God-like male playable character.” He’s also been called “crazy amazing,” with players praising his unexpected damage. His kit is not flawless, though, as he is prone to interruption and crowd-control from enemies without the accompaniment of a proper shielder. This, of course, is a suitable balancing lever, as a character without any flaws whatsoever aren’t exciting or fun. But this weakness is not enough to stop Neuvillette from absolutely dominating the Spiral Abyss. This character even has a surprising solo clear rate, meaning players have frequently used Neuvillette without any other teammates to clear the Spiral Abyss.

Neuvillette is still available to pull in Genshin Impact until October 17, so if you haven’t scavenged enough Primogems yet, I highly recommend trying to summon this classy water dragon. Meanwhile, I’m waiting for Wriothesley for my next pull, who hopefully is just as successful as Neuvillette. Genshin Impact is now available on PC, mobile, and console platforms.
