Redfall requires an online connection

Redfall requires an online connection for co-op and single-player gaming

Must be online to slay.

Microsoft and Bethesda recently showed more of its team-based vampire co-op shooter Redfall. The extended look at gameplay during the Xbox & Bethesda Developer_Direct revealed yet another enticing look at enemies, abilities, and characters. However, one feature they failed to mention was the fact that Redfall will require an online connection for co-op and single-player experiences.

Microsoft hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to games requiring an internet connection in order to play them. That was one of the marketing blunders that hampered the launch of the Xbox One back in 2013. A similar game, Back 4 Blood, also had a similar issue. It didn’t get offline campaign progression for months after launch, even as players voiced their concerns.

Redfall requires an online connection no matter what

In a recent frequently asked questions style blog post, Bethesda notes in order to play Redfall, players must have a “persistent online connection.” So, wherever you’re planning to pick up Redfall, an internet connection is required.

Pre-orders and bonuses

Redfall is set to launch on May 2. You can pre-order the game on Steam or through the Xbox App on PC. The standard edition of the Redfall runs $69.99 USD while the “Bite Back Edition” will cost $99.99 USD. Pre-ordering either bundle of Redfall before its launch will gift you the Vampire Hunter Pack, which includes the Level 2 Unrivaled Grim Tide Shotgun, Polar Vortex multi-weapon skin, and Blood Ravager stake weapon attachment. Bethesda also detailed the difference between the two versions. The Bite Back Edition includes the following items:

  • Base game
  • Redfall Hero Pass
  • Throwback Outfit Pack
  • Laser Beam Multi-Weapon Skin and Tactical Knife Stake Weapon Attachment

Although still a few months until its launch, you can also pre-install Redfall so you’re ready on day one. That is, if your router, modem, wi-fi, or other connection doesn’t conk out beforehand.
