Developer One More Level and 505 Games officially announced Ghostrunner 2 during the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase. The announcement included a flashy, high-octane trailer characteristic of the franchise’s gameplay. Alongside that, Community Manager Stephan Takowsky discussed the first gameplay details for Ghostrunner 2 via a post on the PlayStation blog including mention of when the gaming is coming out.
When is Ghostrunner 2 coming out?
The current release schedule simply lists 2023 for Ghostrunner 2, with no specific date given. We can, however, take a fairly safe guess when the game will come out. The latest release date would be sometime in early December in order to maximize sales preceding the holidays.
It’s also unlikely this will be an early or mid-summer release since that is not far off and wouldn’t provide much time for a PR campaign.
Fall tends to be the blowout release season for most games, so that’s likely where this will land. Of course, we’ll update this post as more information becomes available.
Ghostrunner 2 sounds like it will please fans of the first game with expanded mechanics. We know there is a motorbike and that the level design opens up a lot more. Interactive environments are also a big selling point. Expect exploding barrels, destructible walls, and more to be revealed.
The developers also overhauled the progression system and existing enemy types to fit in with the new gameplay mechanics and abilities. There will be more of everything, and that should facilitate more engaging gameplay that separates the sequel from the original and makes it a genuine successor.
You can check out our original review which points out several areas that needed improvement. The gameplay foundation is strong though, so here’s hoping that the sequel accounts for where the original fell short.

Oddly enough, Ghostrunner 2 was actually announced in 2022, so the May 2023 announcement was really more like the first showcase. It was obvious Ghostrunner 2 was coming out though when 505 Games bought the IP in 2021.
Ghostrunner 2 will be available on PC via GOG, the Epic Games Store, and Steam.
