Cyberpunk 2077: Does Phantom Liberty change the ending?

A potentially different path for V and Silverhand.

The Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 officially drops in just a handful of days, so players can soon jump in on a brand-new storyline featuring V and Johnny Silverhand in addition to a new character played by Idris Elba. Players undoubtedly have no shortage of questions regarding how this new storyline will unfold, not the least of which involves whether or not it will change the game’s ending. Of course, if Phantom Liberty does alter the ending of Cyberpunk 2077 in some way, most players won’t want the specifics of those alterations spoiled for them. But regardless, does the DLC impact the ending in any way?

Is the ending affected by the DLC?

The answer depends on how you frame the question. If you’re wondering if Phantom Liberty automatically changes the game’s ending just by going through it, then the answer is no. However, if you’re instead wondering if the DLC offers a new ending on top of the ones included in the base game, then yes, it absolutely does.

Gabe Amatangelo, the game director of Phantom Liberty, confirmed the new ending option in an interview with WCCFTech published back in June. According to Amatangelo, the DLC storyline already boasts a variety of different endings within itself. But depending on a specific set of decisions made in the DLC, you can access a special new sixth ending for the main Cyberpunk 2077 storyline. Amatangelo stated that this additional conclusion “has to do with your new relationships and characters and situations.”

The confirmation of a new ending in Cyberpunk 2077 made accessible by the Phantom Liberty DLC has certainly sparked plenty of speculation regarding its exact contents. But no matter how the ending turns out, it will probably be best if you steer clear of social media until you experience it yourself, assuming you’re interested enough in the story and therefore wish to go through it blind.
