Do Sons of the Forest Early Access saves still work?

Yes, even after downloading Sons of the Forest 1.0 and updates beyond, your Early Access saves will still work. I played Sons of the Forest when it first launched in Early Access in 2023 and logged in after downloading the 1.0 update and still saw all my saves. There are, however, a few things you should know about the Early Access saves.

You’ll get an Early Access save detected message when loading into an old save. This message tells you everything that’s changed and the recommendations from the developers.

Sons of the Forest 1.0: Changes and Recommendations

Here are all the recommendations and changes:

  • Gold armor, if owned, has been removed from your inventory
  • The Gold door and all hell cave progress has been reset
  • The ending of the game, if completed, has been reset
  • All note pickup items have been removed from your inventory
  • Some parts of the terrain have been altered which may affect your base
  • Older structures may not have full functionality or access to the newest building features
  • To experience the full story and new cutscenes we recommend starting a new game

You’ll need to repeat the story pickups and ending, your buildings may not function correctly because of new building features and environments, and you’ll lose your gold armor. All of this is because of the Sons of the Forest 1.0 patch notes. Because of these changes, Endnight Games recommends you start a new game. Thankfully, it’s not required to make a new game because your Early Access Sons of the Forest saves get converted to full-release saves.
