Fortnite Jujutsu Kaisen Break the Curse begins with free cosmetics to earn

Dark magic, should be harmless.

Another crossover event is now live for Fortnite, this time being “Break the Curse” which is inspired by the Jujutsu Kaisen anime. It includes in-game themed content such as offensive techniques, purchasable cosmetics in the item store, and two event passes for more rewards. The Break the Curse event runs until August 25 at 2 AM ET, so there’s plenty of time to jump in to experience and earn everything before the Chapter 4 Season 3 Wilds season ends.

Epic Games released a trailer and published a blog post covering all of the details and as a tease for what’s hot and new. The event adds four characters from the anime, those being Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, and Satorou Gojo and they are available in the Item Shop. You can also pick up additional outfits for Yuji Itadori by purchasing and completing the premium event pass.

Grab some freebies and enjoy

You can still experience the event and unlock rewards though without coughing up your cash. There’s a free event pass with various cosmetics and an emote called the Shadow Play: Toad as the final reward. You’ll just need to play the game and complete the event-specific Quests to progress tiers on the event pass you go with.

Gameplay-wise, there are two new techniques to use against enemy players. These are the Straw Doll Technique and Hollow Technique: Purple and players must find Cursed Llamas then loot them to acquire the Techniques.

The Straw Doll is a ranged technique with a medium to slow rate of fire that propels explosive nails at targets. You can stick them directly or plant the nails into the environment. The nails will then detonate after a couple seconds.

Purple sounds like it’s designed to counteract builds and structures. It vanishes objects in a ball of violent energy that’s propelled forward on a straight path. The size of the energy ball is relatively large and obstructive too, so you can use it as a solid distraction for escaping or moving aside from the obvious offensive usefulness. Purple also damages players over time.

There’s one last key thing to know about the Fortnite Jujutsu Kaisen Break the Curse event passes. There are multiple timed Grade levels you can unlock, and the Nue Glider is a special reward for getting through all four.

Grade 4 Quests are live now, while Grade 3 begins on August 10 at 9 AM ET, Grade 2 at August 15 9 AM ET, and Grade 1 on August 17 9 AM ET. You’ll have until the end of the event to work on all of the Grades, so just keep August 25 at 2 AM ET marked on your calendar for wrapping things up.

You can check out Epic’s blog post for the full details, including info on a Jujutsu Kaisen-tournament and a few more details. Jujutsu Kaisen marks another addition to the seemingly inexhaustible Fortnite multi-verse. Futurama and and another Terminator expansion happened recently and are still available in the Item Shop. Now imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger hitting someone with the Purple Hollow Technique and making the Doctor Zoidberg noise to celebrate their defeat.
