The basics, rewards, and endings
After unlocking any of the Hangout Events in Genshin Impact, you can get started with that character’s story.
In a way, it’s like one of those visual novels. I think miHoYo almost went full “dating sim” here, which made me roll my eyes a bit. Anyway, the chosen character will appear in front of you, and you’re often presented with some dialogue options. Some are mushy and sweet, while others are friendly. Meanwhile, there are options that can be considered callous or mean. Although there are loads of possible responses, a select few will lead to branching paths in the story.
You’ll also notice “hearts” (aka. the “heartbeat value” of a character). If you choose negative responses, then the heartbeat value might drop too low and the story quest itself might fail.
Now, let’s say that a Hangout Event is in progress or it’s already over, you can check the panel to see how you’ve fared. Like a Choose Your Own Adventure novel or storyboard piece, you’ll see the branching paths that can lead you to certain endings.
For instance, the example below shows Bennett’s escapades with the Traveler. In one ending, I gave Bennett’s Ominous Dish to another adventurer which poisoned the poor guy. In another ending, Bennett sacrificed himself and he got knocked out.
Note: If you discovered an ending in one of Genshin Impact‘s Hangout Events, or if your attempt led to failure, you can always replay the story from any branching point. It does become a little annoying since that means redoing all previous dialogue choices or actions just to try something different later.
Anyway, these endings are known as “Hangout Memories,” and obtaining several of them will net you some cool rewards like Adventurer’s Rank EXP and materials. Here’s what I’ve seen from Bennett’s Hangout Event based on the number of endings you’ve discovered:
- One ending – 5x Hero’s Wit and 5x Teyvat Charred Egg
- Two endings – 20x primogems and 3x Guide to Resistance
- Three endings – 5x Hero’s Wit and 3x Agnidus Agate Fragment
- Four endings – 20x primogems and 5x Teyvat Charred Egg
- Five endings – 5x Hero’s Wit and 3x Agnidus Agate Fragment
- Six endings – 20x primogems and 3x Guide to Resistance
