Genshin Impact: Raiden Shogun Baal guide -- Weapons, artifacts, talents

Ei, also known as the Raiden Shogun, is the ruler of Inazuma. Moreover, she's also the Electro Archon, the embodiment of a god known as Baal. The Traveler has had a few run-ins with her, and we know that she's out to get you due to the Vision Hunt Decree. With so many names and terms, it can get a bit confusing, that's for sure. In any case, here's our Genshin Impact Raiden Shogun guide to help you with Baal or Ei's best weapons, artifacts, talents, and build. Genshin Impact Raiden Shogun Baal guide: Best weapons, artifacts, and talents I've split up our Genshin Impact Raiden Shogun Baal guide into several sections. You can refer to the pages below for the parts that you need help with: Talent priorities, passives, and constellations Best weapon Best artifact sets Character ascension materials Gameplay tips and character summary Note 1: Information about the Raiden Shogun/Baal has already been leaked and data-mined ahead of release (i.e., you can see this listed via Honey Hunter World/Honey Impact). Note 2: The Raiden Shogun is featured in the "Reign of Serenity" wish banner. It turns from September 1 to 21. Genshin Impact: The Raiden Shogun's talent priorities and passives Let's talk about the Raiden Shogun's build based on her talent priorities and passives. Normal Attack: Origin - This determines the damage dealt by the Raiden Shogun's normal, charge, and plunging attacks. Transcendence: Baleful Omen (elemental skill) - The Raiden Shogun reveals a Euthymia shard. It damages nearby enemies and grants "Eye of Stormy Judgment" to party members. The "Eye of Stormy Judgment" is a buff that triggers a coordinated Electro attack whenever your party deals damage (you can expect the Eye to do a coordinated attack every second or so). Moreover, those who have this buff will have their elemental burst damage increased depending on the energy cost of the burst if it's used while the Eye is active. Lastly, this ability has a 25-second duration, but a very low 10-second cooldown. Secret Art: Musou Shinsetsu (elemental burst) - This is a rather complex ability: "Chakra Desiderata" and "Resolve" - When the Raiden Shogun's teammates use their elemental bursts, she'll gain Resolve stacks. The stacks are based on a small amount of the energy it costs to unleash a burst. The maximum number of Resolve stacks you can gain is 60. "Musou no Hitotachi" - This is the initial AoE damage when the Raiden Shogun casts her burst. The damage dealt is based on the number of Resolve stacks you had at the time. As such, the higher the Resolve stacks before casting, the better. "Musou Isshin" - After the AoE blast, the Raiden Shogun's polearm will transform into a tachi (blade). This phase lasts seven seconds. During this time, all of the Raiden Shogun's normal/charged/plunging attacks are infused with Electro, and they'll also regenerate the energy of party members. Moreover, she'll resist interruptions and Electro-charged reaction damage. Long story short, the Raiden Shogun's playstyle emphasizes using her skill to proc coordinated attacks with the Eye of Stormy Judgment. Then, your party members will need to pop their bursts so the Raiden Shogun gains Resolve. That's followed by unleashing her own burst and dealing Electro damage with her infused attacks. In turn, the rest of the party will regenerate their energy so you can cycle among various bursts. Note: The Raiden Shogun's talents require Light booklets (from the Violet Court domain every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday), as well as Nobushi handguards. At higher levels, you'll need Molten Moment which is dropped by La Signora. This item is also used by Aloy. Passive talents: "Wishes Unnumbered" - When party members gain energy orbs, Chakra Desiderata gives the Raiden Shogun two Resolve stacks. "Enlightened One" - For every point above 100% energy recharge, the Raiden Shogun gains 0.4% Electro damage and 0.6% energy restoration from Musou Isshin. "All-Preserver" - Decreases mora/gold spent when ascending swords and polearms. Constellations Of course, since we're talking about a 5-star character, it's going to be a pain in the butt to obtain additional Constellations: C1: Ominous Inscription - Chakra Desiderate provides Resolve faster. +80% Resolve gained when Electro characters use their bursts; +20% Resolve gained when characters of other elements use their bursts. C2: Steelbreaker - Your burst and the tachi blade state (Musou Isshin) ignore 60% of an opponent's defense. C3: Shinkage Bygones - +3 levels for your elemental skill; maximum level is 15. C4: Pledge of Propriety - After your burst's duration expires, all party members except for the Raiden Shogun gain +30% ATK for 10 seconds. C5: Shogun's Descent - +3 levels for your elemental burst; maximum level is 15. C6: Wishbearer - During the Musou Isshin state, the Raiden Shogun's normal/charged/plunging attacks reduce the elemental burst cooldowns of other party members (excluding herself). You can reduce a maximum of five seconds off cooldowns for this effect's duration. All right, let's go to the next part of our Genshin Impact Raiden Shogun guide to talk about the best weapon options for her. Genshin Impact: The best weapon for Raiden Shogun (Baal) Let's discuss the best weapons in Genshin Impact for the Raiden Shogun. Engulfing Lightning (energy recharge) - One of the clear-cut winners here among the best weapons for the Raiden Shogun is the Engulfing Lightning. It's a new 5-star polearm in the "Epitome Invocation" wish that coincides with her banner, and, as such, it's technically her featured weapon. The Engulfing Lightning increases ATK by 28% of the energy recharge stat that's over 100% (up to a maximum of 80% bonus ATK). You'll also gain 30% energy recharge for 12 seconds after using an elemental burst. As mentioned earlier, the Raiden Shogun's playstyle revolves around cycling the bursts of the entire party to empower her own. Since there are a few seconds when you're damaging foes with the tachi blade (Musou Isshin state), the increased attack also helps. Skyward Spine (energy recharge) - Notice a particular theme with the energy recharge sub-stat? The Skyward Spine is also another viable 5-star weapon for the Raiden Shogun. You'll gain +12% crit rate and +12% normal attack speed. Likewise, your normal and charged attacks have a chance to trigger a vacuum blade, dealing 40% of your ATK stat as damage in a small AoE radius. The Catch (energy recharge) - Another decent option for the Raiden Shogun is The Catch, a reward from fishing activities in Genshin Impact. It provides +16% elemental burst damage and +6% crit rate. Oh, and it's also a free-to-play (F2P) item. What about the Favonius Lance and Prototype Starglitter? Although both of these Genshin Impact weapons have energy recharge as a sub-stat, I doubt that they're too decent for the Raiden Shogun. The Favonius Lance helps when regenerating your burst due to elemental particles/orbs. Unfortunately, the burst itself has an 18-second cooldown. If we're stacking energy recharge, you'll probably have the resource needed for your burst even if the timer isn't done yet. As for the Prototype Starglitter, it has a +8% normal/charged attack damage increase after using an elemental skill. Sometimes, you might pop the Raiden Shogun's elemental skill, only to immediately switch to a different character for their burst. It means you won't make much use out of the proc. It might help, somewhat, but you're better off with The Catch if you're going with 4-star equipment. Anyway, let's go to the next part of our Genshin Impact Raiden Shogun guide to talk about the best artifacts that we can use. Genshin Impact: The best artifacts for Raiden Shogun (Baal) - Emblem of Severed Fate vs. Thundering Fury Let's discuss the best artifacts in Genshin Impact for the Raiden Shogun. 4-piece Emblem of Severed Fate: 2-piece bonus – +20% energy recharge. 4-piece bonus – Increases the damage of your elemental burst by 25% of your energy recharge rate. You can gain a maximum of 75% bonus damage in this manner. The Emblem of Severed Fate, which comes from the Momiji-Dyed Court domain, can be considered as the best artifact set for the Raiden Shogun in Genshin Impact. It synergizes well with her playstyle (i.e., recharging her burst, dealing damage with the burst and recharging those of other characters, and cycling back and forth). Plus, her "Enlightened One" passive also grants you bonus Electro damage from your energy recharge rate. Consider this artifact set as a way to ramp up your DPS considerably. 2-piece Thundering Fury and 2-piece Noblesse Oblige: Rather than relying on the 4-piece bonus which increases elemental reaction damage, you can simply make do with a combo set: 2-piece Thundering Fury grants +15% Electro damage. 2-piece Noblesse Oblige grants +20% elemental burst damage. The scaling is significantly worse, on paper, compared to the 4-piece Emblem of Severed Fate artifact set. But, you can keep this for now while you're trying to get better rolls. Speaking of which... Artifact stats: Here are the ideal artifact rolls for Raiden Shogun Baal: Main stats – Crit rate or crit damage for the circlet; energy recharge for the sands. For the goblet, you can stick to Electro damage, or you can go with ATK% if this stat is still too low. Sub-stats – Crit rate/crit damage, ATK%, and some extra energy recharge too. Character ascension materials Raiden Shogun Baal’s character ascension materials can be found all over Teyvat. Here they are: Nobushi handguards - Dropped by Nobushi enemies. Finally, let’s talk about what you can expect when the Raiden Shogun (Baal) is part of your Genshin Impact team. Gameplay tips and character summary We’ve discussed the Raiden Shogun's weapons, artifacts, and talent priorities in an in-depth manner already. So, is the Electro Archon actually all that she's made out to be? I mean, she's supposed to be the embodiment of a god, right? The Raiden Shogun is all about gaining Resolve before unleashing her elemental burst (the initial AoE itself deals a ton of damage). The idea is to have teammates who not only offer elemental synergies, but also high costs for their burst (i.e., the higher the cost, the more Resolve you'll get by default). From here, she'll rely on the "Musou Isshin" state where she wields her tachi blade. Because all her attacks are infused with Electro for several seconds, she'll need Electro damage to gain additional boosts. Thankfully, she receives this from her "Enlightened One" passive which is based on her energy recharge stat. Because of these facets, the Raiden Shogun ends up stacking energy recharge to increase throughput. For instance, the 4-piece Emblem of Severed Fate artifact set gives you a huge boost to your elemental burst damage. Consequentially, your attacks while your burst is active will recharge the bursts of your teammates. In turn, they'll cast their bursts to further empower yours via Resolve stacks, which brings us back to square one. It's all about cycling and quick-swapping among your party members. We're looking at synergies between her and Kujou Sara or Beidou. By extension, high uptime and fast recharge also ensure that most teammates will benefit from her capabilities when she's part of the team. Genshin Impact is available via its official website.
