Flame Gleeok fight prerequisites

Before you face off against this dragon, there are quite a few things you should make sure you’ve done. First of all, don’t even attempt to fight this beast unless you have quite a few hearts. I fought it with around 15 or so hearts, but even my health diminished severely after one or two hits.

Also, make sure to pack a ton of hearty meals, because you’ll be healing yourself a lot. You should hold onto some fairies as well, since they’ll revive you if you get to zero hearts. Lastly, I’d farm some Keese Eyeballs, which you can attach to arrows to make them homing arrows. Since this is a fire dragon, I’d recommend either normal ones, or the Eyeballs from Ice Keese or Electric Keese. This will come in handy in a bit.

It’s not required, but I also recommend that you have the Vow of Riju and the Vow of Yunobo. Tulin and Sidon can also be useful at times, but specifically calling upon Riju and Yunobo’s abilities are most helpful. While Riju can get a good Lightning strike in using your arrow, throwing Yunobo at the Gleeok can deal decent damage.

Flame Gleeok locations

There are three Flame Gleeoks you can come across throughout Hyrule. The one I tried to tackle was on the Bridge of Hylia, right in the center, waiting for passing travelers. You can also find one on Spectacle Rock in the Gerudo Highlands, and another in the Ancient Columns in the Tabantha Frontier. If you’re interested in the other Gleeok types, we’ve covered how to beat the Thunder Gleeok and the Frost Gleeok.

How to defeat a Flame Gleeok

Now that you’re standing face-to-face with a Flame Gleeok, there are some things to note about its fighting style. If you can start the fight by falling from the sky, this will give you a head start. I teleported to the nearest Skyview Tower, which was very close to Lake Hylia Bridge. Then, I could easily pull out my bow and aim for the heads. If you stun the three Gleeok heads, it will stun the creature all-together. This will leave it open for a few blows, but it doesn’t take long for the Flame Gleeok to brush off the stun.

If you have homing arrows, it’ll make it easier to aim right for the heads. If you’re worried about the harsh fire beams it spews, there are a few solutions. Use your shield to block it, which will deplete its durability. Or, you can find something to hide behind. The bridge location doesn’t offer much coverage, but the other locations will work.

Also, if you’re fighting a Flame Gleeok in an area with grass, lighting it on fire will create updrafts for Link to paraglide on. This way, you can slow time mid-air when shooting at the heads. Luckily, at a certain point in the fight, the dragon will spew enough fire to create its own updrafts.

You’ll need to fly on these updrafts at this point, since the Flame Gleeok will get so high up you can’t reach it from the ground. This fight is all about avoiding its hits, aiming for the heads, and then laying attacks on it while it’s stunned.

If you manage to defeat a Flame Gleeok, it will drop a Gleeok Wing, Gleeok Flame Horn, and Gleeok Guts. Now that you know how to beat the Flame Gleeok in Tears of the Kingdom, I wish you the best of luck against these ferocious creatures!
