A new Deus Ex game is reportedly in early development at Eidos Montréal

We've been asking for this.

The time for a new Deus Ex game could finally be on the cards. Jason Schreier, reporter for Bloomberg, seems to have confirmed three titles that Eidos Montréal is currently working on. The first is a brand new IP that’s been “rescoped,” with the second project being a Deus Ex game that’s in “very very early” development. He also said that the developer is working on other partnerships with Xbox that includes helping with the new upcoming Fable.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen or heard about a new Deus Ex game. After Deus Ex: Mankind Divided had a less than stellar reception (according to Square Enix), the future of the franchise has been a bit uncertain. But after Square Enix sold most of its western studios to Embracer Group earlier in the year, there came a small glimmer of hope for the franchise’s return.

It’s indeed exciting to think that we could hop back into Deus Ex‘s world sometime soon. However, the next game is likely very far away. We also have no idea what the next game could be about. It’s likely that the team would want to finish off Adam Jensen’s journey. And after the unsatisfying ending of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, this would be appreciated. But it’s still too early to tell what Eidos Montréal is cooking up. Elias Toufexis, the voice behind Adam Jensen, has expressed his desire for the franchise’s return many times. But even he’s unsure about whether his return is assured.

A new Deus Ex game could be on its way — eventually

Even if the next game won’t see the light of day for a while, it’s still comforting to know that a new entry might be in the works. Mankind Divided was a massive improvement over Human Revolution in many ways. So it’s exciting to think about how Eidos Montréal would approach another game in the series.

And eventually, it’ll be interesting to see where the games could go in the future. Perhaps with the current culture of old classics getting remakes, we may see the original Deus Ex get the same treatment. It may be a long time away, but at least there’s some hope for the series at last.
