Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake

There are ‘no plans’ to make a Resident Evil Code Veronica remake

Claire's second adventure will have to wait.

Capcom is slowly working through the classic Resident Evil titles and remaking them with modern gameplay. And the Resident Evil 4 remake’s latest trailer did much to increase the hype. However, devoted fans may have noticed that the developer skipped over the next big game after Resident Evil 3. In some ways, Resident Evil Code Veronica is the true third entry in the franchise. Plus it sets the stage for Resident Evil 4 and its sequels. So it’s safe to say that it’s an important title. However, it doesn’t look like Capcom intends to remake Resident Evil Code Veronica anytime soon.

Resident Evil 4 producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, clarified this in an interview with Noisy Pixel. In fact, Hirabayashi stated that “there are no concrete plans to develop Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake,” but did follow that up with a “maybe” if the opportunity comes around. This is undoubtedly disappointing for Resident Evil Code Veronica fans who want a remake (and aren’t making one themselves). But the door doesn’t seem completely closed just yet.

Capcom’s focus is on the Resident Evil 4 remake

As far as why Capcom would want to skip Code Veronica, there are a few possibilities. For starters, it likely isn’t as popular as Resident Evil 4, which is one of the best-selling games of all time. So it makes sense that Capcom would want to jump on that as soon as possible. Code Veronica‘s storyline also goes into some strange places, so maybe Capcom didn’t want to go there just yet. But again, since Code Veronica sets up Resident Evil 4, it seems strange to skip over it.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Unfortunately, playing Code Veronica‘s original release is a bit tricky right now. It’s not available on the PC at the moment, unlike plenty of other Resident Evil iterations. It would be nice if Capcom could at least bring it over so players can experience the game for themselves. It would also likely help the company decide if a remake would be beneficial. Either way, all eyes are on the Resident Evil 4 remake for now. When that’s finally out we can maybe start asking Capcom for Code Veronica or Outbreak once again.
