Rainbow Six Extraction guide – Mission objectives

Each map in Rainbow Six Extraction will have three mission objectives that are drawn randomly from a pool. The difficulty level you choose will also determine how tough these missions are, as well as the amount of XP that you’ll receive.

Likewise, Mutations (i.e., modifiers) can also exist, making these runs tougher. Lastly, some of these tasks are scaled depending on the number of players in a squad (i.e., an objective might require you to blow up one location if you’re soloing, but it’d require three if you’ve got a full team). As usual, remember the high-risk, high-reward nature of the game and whether or not you’ll tackle these goals.

Triangulation

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Task: Activate the Seismic Stations (i.e., laptops) in order.
  • Tips: Sneak around and look for the laptops so you know where they are, then clear the enemies in those spots. You’ve got one minute and 40 seconds to activate each laptop in order, which is why it’s better to clear the area so you don’t experience hassles while running around.

Nest Tracking

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Task: Plant explosives on Nests.
  • Tips: Sneak around to find and plant bombs on Nests without alerting enemies. It’s that easy. The problem is that you could accidentally alert one mob, which will then alert many others. If all Nests in the level become active, you’ll fail the objective. Also, Pulse is quite good for this particular mission since his scan shows Nests through obstacles.

Biopsy

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Task: Do a takedown on an elite.
  • Tips: This is another easy mission objective in Rainbow Six Extraction. Yes, the elite might be surrounded by other creatures, and you have to be undetected so you can do a takedown. However, you can use Smoke Grenades, Stun Grenades, or various abilities (i.e., stuns, cloaking, and distractions) to mask your approach. You could even do a frontal takedown as long as the elite doesn’t spot you immediately.

Specimen

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Task: Capture an elite.
  • Tips: The idea is to shoot the elite or blast its surroundings to make a lot of noise. Then, back away while moving back to the extraction point. The only dangers here are other mobs that might get alerted, so try to kill most of them before aggroing the elite.

Hunt

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Task: Defeat specific types of mobs to summon the elite, then kill it.
  • Tips: This will really depend on the type of mobs that are thrown your way. Also, the elite will often know where you are, and it can alert other foes once it sees you.

Shutdown

  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Task: Pick up the charge and plant it on the Nutrient Node.
  • Tips: The charge can be found on a panel to the side of the extraction pod. After grabbing it, you’ll need to find the Nutrient Node and plant it there. The only reason this task might pose a challenge is when you alert mobs. Since the Nests will respawn until you destroy the Nutrient Node, you could end up with lots of hostiles popping up. Likewise, you’re only allowed to use your secondary weapon while carrying the charge. You need to drop it before switching to your primary or ability, which can be an issue during hectic moments.

Sabotage

  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Task: Place a charge on an Arch Spine and defend it until it blows up.
  • Tips: This can be a fairly annoying mission objective in Rainbow Six Extraction. That’s because enemies will appear even if the entire map has been cleared and all Nests have been destroyed. They’ll come from all directions to slash at the Arch Spine (and you if you’re in the way). Ideally, you’ll want point-defense experts like Jager and Tachanka. Sledge is also good since he can just smash everyone in melee range.

Serial Scan

  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Task: Go to three specific areas and wait for the scan to get completed.
  • Tips: Again, point-defense Operators excel here. Jager, in particular, could sit back and cover one side while the automated turret handles another passageway.

Aberrant Nests

  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Task: Destroy the five green Nests, then obtain the specimen from the one in the center.
  • Tips: The only tough part here would be the placement of Nests. Although they’re often in a single building or area, some might be behind obstacles or on different floors. Mobs will start spawning as soon as you destroy the first Nest, so try not to get overwhelmed. Pulse is a good pick for this one due to his scanning ability.

Rescue

  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Task: Find the captive asset and bring them to the extraction point.
  • Tips: This won’t pose any difficulty at all if you’re able to clear the area beforehand. However, there are a couple of caveats. The first is that the asset, if already seen by the player, will get attacked by alerted hostiles. This can be an issue if, say, you went inside the room where the captive is and you got accidentally seen by an enemy. The second is that the asset will periodically cough and alert other mobs.

MIA Operator

  • Difficulty: N/A
  • Task: Rescue the Operator from the Archaean Tree.
  • Tips: The difficulty here isn’t necessarily related to the task at hand. It’s more about the fact that you’ll have to use other Operators that you might not be familiar with or haven’t leveled up yet. You can learn more in our MIA Operator mission guide.

Gateway

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • Task: Enter the singularity and defeat the Protean.
  • Tips: The chance for this mission objective in Rainbow Six Extraction is fairly random, but it will always be the third and final task in that level. Try to increase the difficulty to see it more often. You can learn more in our Protean boss fight guide.
