SaGa Frontier Remastered guide: How to unlock Fuse and New Game+

From IRPO to hero.

SaGa Frontier was released in the late 90s. Originally, the game had seven characters to choose from. These included favorites such as Red and Asellus, as well as the somewhat forgettable Lute and Riki. However, the developers left some content on the cutting room floor. Now, SaGa Frontier Remastered presents a new playable character, Fuse, and his inclusion is also related to the New Game+ feature. Looks like the IRPO detective will be more than just a random you spot while getting the Shield Card.

Note: Fuse isn’t the only new addition in SaGa Frontier Remastered. That’s because Square Enix has decided to make Asellus’ story more fleshed out. Indeed, Asellus can even recruit Dr. Nusakan, the last mystic for her roster.

SaGa Frontier Remastered guide: Unlocking Fuse and New Game+

The method to unlock Fuse is simple enough. All you need to do is beat the game with any main character. Of course, getting to that point can take a while, especially if you’re grinding and power-leveling to beat each character’s respective final boss.

If you do manage to finish any campaign, you’ll be asked to overwrite your existing system data or create a new one. This is your New Game+ save file that’s denoted by a red crown. The New Game+ option allows you to carry over a lot of stuff. You can keep your gold, items, attributes/stats, HP/JP/WP, skills, spells, and various abilities. You can even choose to carry over the current enemy rank which means monsters will be tougher from the get-go.

Note 1: You get to keep the Asura/Phantasm and Sand Vessel if your previous character had these. What won’t carry over, though, are magic gifts (you need to redo the quests).

Note 2: The New Game+ option in SaGa Frontier Remastered ensures that any character you pick in your next playthrough will have the stats/skills based on how you built them during your previous run. For instance, I sometimes used Lute during my Asellus run, so he ended up with his pre-leveled stats. Conversely, I barely had Fuse joining battles which meant he had low stats. I did give him some high-end items once I got control of him.

In any case, Fuse does become a playable option for your New Game+ runs. If you decide to choose him, you’ll be in for a completely unique story. As an IRPO patrolman, Fuse originally popped up when your characters were trying to obtain the Shield Card in IRPO/Mosperiburg. However, his new narrative in SaGa Frontier Remastered gives him a more active role.

It starts out with him looking for leads about a missing girl who was kidnapped by mystics (Asellus). From there, he’ll investigate the dealings of the other main characters. If you’ve played the original game and you’re getting SaGa Frontier Remastered, do give Fuse’s story a try.
