Ubisoft’s big Viking adventure, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is headed to Steam. This was rumored last week when an online group dug around the Ubisoft Connect database. But now Ubisoft has made it official and created a Steam page for the game. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will launch on Steam on December 6. This is timed quite nicely as it’s the same day the game will get its free Last Chapter update.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla isn’t the only Ubisoft game coming to Steam. Roller Champions, the 3v3 multiplayer title will also make its way over. And it’s joined by Anno 1800, too. There are no dates for these games as of now, but we’re likely to find out more very soon. It’s good news for those who missed out on any of these games in the past. It could mean that Ubisoft may continue releasing future games on Steam as well.
Assassin’s Creed returns to Steam
Ubisoft isn’t the first publisher to return to Steam after a brief absence. Electronic Arts did the exact same thing, and so did Bethesda. But both publishers ended up coming back to Valve’s platform while also maintaining their own storefronts. However, in Bethesda’s case, its storefront eventually shut down entirely. It’s not shocking that publishers want to try and strike out on their own since Steam does eat into their profits quite a bit. However, the player base on Steam is so much bigger than anywhere else on the PC market. So, at least for now, Steam remains at the top, and this is likely why Ubisoft decided to bring Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to the storefront.

Ultimately, this is will likely create a positive outcome for the franchises. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Roller Champions, and Anno 1800 can find a ton of new players on Steam. And it may also indicate that Ubisoft intends to remain on Steam in some capacity. With that said, there are still a few games that have not made the jump. Far Cry 6 and Watchdogs: Legion remain on Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store. So it remains to be seen whether we can expect to see the rest of Ubisoft’s recent library land on Steam’s shores. For now, though, it’s good to see these games available on another platform.
