Dota 2 patches continue to lower the “comeback” gold

Patch 6.82b: *Jokes about “If I wanted my comeback” now inflict damage on the user.

You could politely say the Dota 2 community has been “divided” on the 6.82 changes that provide extra assist gold for the losing team. The numbers are being tweaked, thankfully, with two patches over the last two days massively nerfing the amount received.

Yesterday’s Dota 2 patch: “Slightly reduced AoE Gold bonus Net Worth Factor for 1 hero kills from 0.5 to 0.38”

Today’s patch lowers things even more, with the relevant patch notes as follows:

* Kill Streak Bounty from 100->800 to 60->480 (6.81 values are 125->1000)
* Reduced AoE Gold bonus Net Worth Factor for 1/2/3/4/5 hero kills from 0.5/0.35/0.25/0.2/0.15 to 0.26/0.22/0.18/0.14/0.10

I’m not even going to attempt to use maths this because my head will explode as you need a Master’s degree in a heavy mathematics branch to calculate this, but I think this reduces the gold value to something like a quarter of what it was when the patch went live. I think this is possibly down to the devs watching i-league and noticing how utterly insane some of the comebacks have been.

I like the idea of this mechanic, but I really dislike the execution right now. The other changes in the initial 6.82 patch have heavily nerfed the 6.81 early game/snowballing tactics, so I’m not quite sure an extra mechanic this severe is really essential.

Of course, the patch only went live earlier this week, so it’s way too soon to actually tell how much this needs to be changed. Time will tell, but the urgency of these patches indicates that Valve thinks something is broken.
