There’s a reason why they call this next level in Amnesia: Rebirth the Hunting Grounds. There are puzzles here such as the maze and the bloody pool. It can’t be helped that I’ll have to mention the encounters here too.
Amnesia: Rebirth – The Hunting Grounds’ puzzles
The start of the Hunting Grounds level
Make your way past the dingy corridors and head downstairs to find an odd-looking machine (not for pigs, I think). You can’t get to it yet.
For now, make your way around until you spot an opening next to a creepy-looking idol.
Go through the passageway to find a door that’s blocked. Check the side to see that a wooden stick is wedged behind it.
Pick up some rocks and throw them at the stick to break it.
Past the door, you’ll eventually reach a dark room with a wheel. Make sure you have a save here.
Turn the wheel to open the gate and make your way inside the maze.
To be clear, I actually had to replay this part thrice. I kept getting confused by the layout and there’s also a ghoul roaming around. The problem is that if Tasi died, it would spawn me near the exit. This might mess up my playthrough so I had to reload the save.
Anyway, you’ll notice pressure plates that might open or close spiked gates if you step on them. At a corner, you’ll see a stone block resting on a plate. so push it away to open a path.
As you continue through the maze, you’ll be attacked by the ghoul. I’m still uncertain about this, but it seems getting attacked is required. You can fight it off and it’ll scurry away.
This will let you reach another section of the maze with two stone blocks on the floor and a path in front.
Jump over the pressure plate to prevent the gate from closing.
Next, crouch and gingerly make your way around this area to avoid the ghoul.
In one of the corners, you’ll spot a couple of stone blocks that can be pushed off. Doing so opens the next gate.
You should see the exit soon — it has a doorway and a lantern with blue flames. The ghoul will be aware of your presence, so hightail it to the exit and hop over the pressure plate.
The gate will close behind you and the ghoul will be trapped. Continue onward until you reach the room with the bloody pool.
The bloody pool
Crouch to swim under the muck and the spiked gate. Look to your right and climb the ladder.
Finally, you’ll reach that strange machine from earlier. There’s a canister here, but you can’t pick it up yet.
Instead, go to the next room where you’ll see Richard Fairchild, a member of the expedition team, getting tortured by a monster.
Open the door and the monster will move to a smaller room. Crouch and silently make your way to that room, close the door, and flip the locking mechanism to trap the ghoul inside.
Turn the wheel to free Fairchild from the torture device.
After the scene, you’ll find yourself in the machine room again. Grab the canister and pull the lever. This will open the doorway leading back to the room with the bloody pool.
Wade through the muck and check out the panel with a couple of levers. Pull them until you see that one of the cages (highlighted in the image below) has been raised.
Go to the pool and swing the nearby cage so that it hits the malfunctioning gear next to it. This will let you escape the room.
After the short scene, keep going forward to the end of the corridor. When you reach the end, you’ll find a small crawlspace to your left.
Upon reaching the next area, look behind the pillar to discover a lever. Pull it and go climb the ladder.
Looks like you’re back at the initial area of the Amnesia: Rebirth‘s Hunting Grounds level.
Backtrack and return to the camp near the Portal Chamber area. Make sure you grab the canister from earlier.
Amnesia: Rebirth‘s Portal Chamber (redux)
I won’t spoil the next part too much, but, sufficed to say, you’ll be going the long way around if you want to head back to Amnesia: Rebirth‘s Portal Chamber.
Here are some tips, in any case:
- Follow the green/blue lights and the entity since these will guide you.
- When you see a puzzle with a “clock” (seen below), rotate it so that it’s barred by the indentations. Then, click on the next indentations so you can keep rotating the wheel. It’s going to make a lot of noise.
- Enjoy your little trek.
Eventually, you should find yourself in the Portal Chamber once more. Place the two canisters in the device.
Run around the edge of the room while rotating the wheels again. Make sure they’re aligned properly to create a narrow, focused laser beam.
When you’re done, press the button and watch the short scene. Tasi will end up in Amnesia: Rebirth‘s next zones, the Theater and Vitae Lab.
