Elden Ring guide – How to cheese the Mimic Tear boss fight in Nokron Eternal City

The Mimic Tear boss fight in Elden Ring, as the name implies, involves a creature that can copy your character. First, it will appear as a Black Slime enemy. Then, it will suddenly transform into “you,” complete with the weapons and armors that you’re using. I’m not sure about the talismans, but those don’t matter. Likewise, it heals using flasks as well.

When I first fought it, I was using decent armor and upgraded weapons. It wasn’t much of a challenge, though perhaps that’s because the AI has a hard time doing straight cuts with a rapier.

Still, I decided to get my character killed to test something. So, when I respawned, I removed all my character’s weapons and armors.

My Tarnished was just wearing his loincloth when he entered the arena. And, true enough, the boss also copied the same setup. That meant it had no weapons or armors to speak of.

So, if you’re having a tough time fighting the Mimic Tear boss in Elden Ring, just cheese and go in naked. Then, after it’s fully formed, run around with the menu open so you can re-equip your gear. You may also summon Spirit Ashes to help distract it as you’re fixing your equipment.

In any case, the Mimic Tear boss drops the Silver Tear Mask (headgear) and two Larval Tears. These are helpful if you still need to respec your character’s stats. Furthermore, with this encounter done, you’re free to explore the rest of Nokron Eternal City in Elden Ring. One key location is Night’s Sacred Ground, which you should visit only after you’ve agreed to help Witch Ranni with her personal quest. It’s also the location of an amazing Spirit Ash summon, as the Mimic Tear turns into a friendly clone. Lastly, there’s another passageway that takes you to Deeproot Depths (yes, a secret area within a secret area).
