Hogwarts Legacy: How to stop Gear in chests from getting deleted if your inventory is full

My treasure chest

There’s a lot of loot to be found in Hogwarts Legacy, so it’s worrying that gear found in chests can get deleted. You’ll frequently find new pieces to equip onto your character and there are few better ways to find multiple high-quality items at once than by opening a large chest. However, if you do this, you might end up getting a notice that your gear is full and that the contents of the chest cannot be added to your inventory. While this might not seem like a massive deal in and of itself, if your inventory is full, you’ll see a red message onscreen that says “Your gear slots are full” after opening a chest.

You will obviously not receive all (or any) of a chest’s items, but the big problem is that the chest will be registered as opened and you won’t be able to open it again. As these chests tend to contain valuable loot, this means you can miss out on some great items if you get hit by this.

How to prevent gear from chests getting deleted in Hogwarts Legacy

Thankfully, there are steps you can take to mitigate the issue. Whenever you go to open one of these chests, make sure that you have several free spaces in your gear inventory. Alternatively, you could save before opening them and then reload it if you don’t have enough room. You can also complete the Merlin Trials, which will reward you with more inventory space — check out our guide.

Some players have reported that they missed out on legendary gear due to this and lost a fair amount of time reloading an older save to try and rectify the issue. Granted, this won’t happen to you as long as you’re wary of your inventory space, but it’s rather problematic that the chest items are all erased if you don’t happen to have the room. This doesn’t necessarily need to put a damper on your playthrough, but it is just another reason to manually save regularly.
