How to Unlock Merlin Trials

Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy aren’t available from the get-go. Instead, you’ll need to progress further in the main story. The next day after you finish Secrets of the Restricted Section, you’ll receive various assignments, as well as an Owl Post message from Natty. She tells you to meet her in the Lower Hogsfield, which is south of Hogwarts. Track the quest and talk to her.

Immediately after that, another marker pops up near the lake. There’s a woman named Nora Treadwell. She asks for your help just as several Dark Wizards apparate. Use your combat abilities to eliminate them and Nora will be thankful. She’ll tell you to pick up Mallowsweet Leaves from the nearby chest.

The First Merlin Trial

Interact with the ornate circular plate and your character will sprinkle the Mallowsweet Leaves. This will activate your first Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Legacy. The goal here is to cast Incendio to light all the braziers aflame. You’ll have to do this quickly to complete the task.

When you’re done, Nora will leave, but you should now spot Merlin Trials on the world map (i.e., leaf symbol). You’ll also enable the Merlin Trials Challenge. Each tier has a required completion number, whereupon you’ll obtain an increase to your inventory space.

Other Merlin Trials Nearby

There are a couple of Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials nearby. One is just west of the village where you had a chat with Natty. When you reach the clearing, you’ll see three spots with holes, as well as several sets of balls. The goal is to use Levioso to lift the objects. Then, while standing opposite the holes, cast Accio. This will cause the balls to move toward you, dropping into the holes easily. Do this for all three sections to finish the task.

Another Merlin Trial can be found on the bluffs just south of the wooden bridge that leads back to Hogwarts. Once you’re there, you’ll see a massive boulder. The idea here is to push it all the way down the slope until it rests in the depression along the lake’s shoreline. Unfortunately, your character doesn’t have enough strength to do that on their own. As such, you’d have to unlock the Depulso spell.

In any case, be on the lookout for Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials. Apart from the additional XP and puzzle-like challenges, you’ll also be able to increase your character’s inventory space.
