Like the Bethesda games that came before it, Starfield is getting major story DLC expansions after launch. The first expansion pack, Shattered Space, is coming sooner than you think.

When Does the Starfield Shattered Space DLC Release?

While other Bethesda games have had multiple expansions announced prior to launch, Starfield only has one DLC planned for now: Shattered Space. There’s no official release date for Shattered Space just yet, but we can nail a solid release window for the expansion based on Bethesda’s previous DLC history.

Skyrim‘s first expansion, Dawnguard, was released seven months after the game’s initial release date. Fallout 4’s first DLC, Automatron, was released just six months after launch. Based on this information, we can expect the Shattered Space DLC to be released sometime in the first half of 2024 if Bethesda follows its previous patterns.

However, Shattered Space is likely a much larger expansion than anything that Bethesda has released in the past. As stated above, Bethesda usually announces an entire slate of DLC for its games ahead of launch. Starfield only has the Shattered Space DLC confirmed at the time of writing.

Plus, Shattered Space is included with the Starfield Premium Edition, which is priced at $100. While the Premium Edition includes a few skins and cosmetic items, the Shattered Space expansion is the main thing that sets this version apart from the standard version. As such, we can expect the Shattered Space DLC to be priced at $30.

Because Shattered Space is expected to be slightly more expensive than Bethesda’s previous DLC offerings, it’ll probably take a little while longer to come out too. Realistically, Shattered Space will launch sometime in the Fall of 2024, a year after Starfield’s initial launch. Given the price increase and the fact that Bethesda has only announced one story expansion for Starfield, Shattered Space is most likely a much larger DLC than even Bethesda’s biggest.

While Starfield’s first DLC is still a long way out, there’s plenty to see and do in the vanilla version of the game. Bethesda’s massive space RPG has several different faction questlines to enjoy, New Game+ changes to experience, and weapon builds to test out. It’s easy to dump dozens upon dozens of hours into Starfield, and your playtime can only go up with the best Starfield mods.
