Firaxis and 2K Games has announced at PAX East, Civilization: Beyond Earth which will be out this Fall for PC, Mac and Linux. Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth will propel the development of human civilization beyond the traditional timeline of a Civilization game, by exploring humanity’s future on an alien world. For the first time, players will lead factions divided by contrasting cultures and evolve their new civilizations to reflect their chosen destiny. Players will experience an array of new gameplay possibilities, including nonlinear technological progression, deeper customization of chosen factions, and an entire alien world that will change the very identity of each faction based on their choices.
There have been many rumors going around about the possibility of another Borderland game, and when Gearbox Studio Head Randy Pitchford was asked, his response was pretty straight forward. “We are currently not working on Borderlands 3”. That is true, however what he didn’t mention, or comment on that another studio (2K Austrailia) was working on another Borderlands title. The Pre-Sequel will be sending four new vault hunters into space to battle low gravity, zero atmosphere, and raving, psychotic astronauts.
It can often be the case that a great game is not necessarily a money maker for its developers (Beyond Good and Evil, Ico etc). Fortunately however Take Two has revealed that Borderlands 2 has shipped over 8.5 million copies since its release in September 2012. The information was released via Take-Two Interactive earnings call.
In its first few months, Borderlands 2 shipped 5 million copies which means that another 3.5 million was shipped over more than a year. Borderlands 2 was the anticipated sequel to the well received Borderlands that came out in 2009. It seems the amount of gun nuts has increased as Borderlands is fast becoming a top franchise amongst gamers. It may be a long way from outselling the likes of Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto but it’s good to see that Borderlands is holding its own.
